E3 Unit Reflection

                Environmental Science has just become more relevant to me because it taught me how to save money in easy ways. I found some of it was common sense but still interesting. Some of it was new found information. Altogether these energy saving tips and information really going to help me save money and get closer and closer to my dream. Making loads of money and owning a huge house. What I’m going to do is another blog for another time.

                The E3 unit showed me how to save energy and money. One way was by simply unplugging appliances, or chargers of any appliance. Appliances like ones laptop, or cell phone. Even an ipod charger, and let’s not forget those nightlights. Unplugging these appliances when not in use is an easy way to save energy and money. The most expensive energy bill is electrical for that very reason, and another. We as humans tend to be wasteful at times even those who claim to be neat freaks.  Another helpful hint that has proved to be quite helpful is as simple as light bulb replacing. Exchanging Incandescent Light bulbs, for Compact Fluorescent light bulbs. I learned that you can save money over time by making this change. About $30 to be exact. A cfl last longer than a Il. A cfl also is cooler in touch compared to the heat of a Il; whose heat escapes the bulb.

                Insulation was a whole new idea of money conservation that I learned about in the AEP E3 unit. I learned that poor insulation is one reason why heating and cooling is so expensive. I know I said that the Electrical Bill is the most energy bill; well I was wrong this is the most expensive bill in the department of energy. Insulation is when air can properly circulate in and out of the house. While sealing all air leaks and drafts. Insulation is everything when it comes to warmth and smooth cool air in ones house. In the summer, insulation will keep the hot air outside and the cool air inside. Sending the hot air outside. In the winter proper insulation will keep home owners and apartment owners rather cozy with exemplary warmth. With the right insulation Ones home can stay properly heated and cool. With Poor insulation the home can be a sauna in the summer, and the inside of an igloo in the winter. With poor conditions like that Home owners will crank the AC in the summer, and drastically raise the temperature. Causing the owners temperatures above the eco-friendly levels of 68 degrees in the summer, and 78 degrees in the winter.

                By now, it should be evident that I gained a plethora of money saving tips and/or tactics through the AEP E3 unit. These smart ideals will save me money in the long run so thank you Mr. Bruns. 

Three Articles about Environmental Science

          Today I had to read three articles dealing with Environmental Science and they were quite interesting. One talked about how global warming can shrink cold blooded organisms. Almost all cold blooded organisms are affected by the phenomenon known as "temperature--size rule" which states that an individual of the same species can reach small sizes in reared warm weather. a writer of American Naturalists  joined with some students of Queen Mary's School of Biology and Chemistry to dig deeper into this idea. later the team realized that growth and development increases at different temperature rates. the consequences are that in warmer weather that individual will grow and mature faster, resulting in the achievement of smaller adult sizes. This sort of proves that global warming is real because places around the globe are getting warmer. Because of the rise in temperatures some species shrink. These next two articles are dealing with Environmental Scientific jobs. I chose this because it shows the lighter and more nicer side of the human impact on the world. Jobs revolving around the subject of environmental science are getting more attention due to the governments environmentally friendly shift. Even places like china are trying to push for cleaner air and pay more attention to the environment.So this second article is about Habitat Garden Educators. These people embrace the wild life by giving the local animals a "garden" to live in. This garden would include animals that play as both predator and prey. To help keep balance nice little hiding spots are distributed throughout the garden. The educator would lead a group of homeowners to landscape this garden. As i said before those who engage in this job embrace the earth wildlife and does not take from it. This next one is great for those who strongly admire the great outdoors: a Wilderness Ranger. These people don't just ride around in a jeep, and scope out bears with binoculars. They also inspect the area and scopes out the civilians who correctly use the wilderness and those who misuse it. They protect what they have sworn to protect like police... sort of. I hope you understand what I mean. Rangers must be physically fit they can't just ride jeeps they also ride horseback, on donkey, or on foot. Its not bad though, they get paid 35,000 a year and converse with visitors. Telling them the rules and regulations. These two articles help raise Environmental awareness because it embraces the earths resources in a good way and it keeps an eye on those who may tour or visit it (it being the wild). These last two articles show the good effects we have on our earth, while the first one shows the bad.

The Lorax Presentations

          So we watched P.S.A.'s on Wednesday and they were all good. I think they will all catch on and become biddable rules. Though out of all of the P.S.A.'s  i think my group had the best public service announcement. I believe this because announcement was more carefully planned out and clever. Not to mention original. Everyone Else's was too but I'm just saying that ours was original as well. Littering was the topic of discussion in our group. we chose something that just about everyone has done and dissected it to find the cons of this terrible trend. Though we had little facts, we were still able to gt our point across with efficient execution, and flow. We believed a rap would be more  "consumer" friendly because it is catchy and can leave a mark  on the audience persuading them to join the movement presented to them. In this situation  we want people to "stop the littering it doesn't make sense".  and its going to work anyway. throughout our announcement and spit hard facts. Including alarming stats, and new facts. For example the verses about businesses spotting trash and then making assumptions later. We had rythem and flow throughout our presentation. proving our point with swagger and execution. Yes that just happen.

       so in environmental science i watched a video that stressed the subject of how well we treat our world through the amount of resources we use. The video showed me many different things about people that nobody really takes very seriously; like diapers for example, people do not realize that a baby can go through more than 2500 diapers within 2 years. Due to the materials used in diapers, diapers tend to last longer than a typical human life span. So all those trashed diapers last longer and contribute to the worldwide waste of the worlds natural resources. Altogether i learned that in one lifetime a human can consume, and use a huge chunk of the worlds resources.

    k soooo... my name is Virgil Hughes. I like to draw, play games, watch anime and movies, and i listen to rap and hip hop. I am currently taking Mandarin Chinese 3. I Draw because its more than just a hobby to m. Its a way to express myself and a way to bring images from my mind to reality. Drawing is one of the key components in my dream job: i want to design cars, work closely with the marvel comics company, and create concept art for video games. Sometimes i draw when I'm feeling angry, trouble, depressed because i wish that the people that i draw could come to life and just... save the day. Basically i want the heroes i draw to be my heroes. I also like to play video games so I own an xbox 360. I play lots of shooters and fighting games...well that is practically my whole genre catalog. I like those games because they're pretty fun to me. Some of the games i own are Mortal Kombat 9, Borderlands, Bulletstorm, and star wars force unleashed 2 just to name a few. I also watch anime. My favorites are Bleach, the boondocks, naruto, sengoku Basara: Samurai kings. I also watch the Wolverine anime on G4. So at hear i can be quite nerdy, but that is ok because thats who I am.  I also watch many movie. the latest i have seen are Rise of the planet of the apes, X men first class (slapped),transformers dark side of the moon (amazing...just sayin) just to name a few. I listen to a variety of different music; but i mostly listen to rap an hip hop. Lil Wayne, drake, mac miler, big Sean, and tyga are my favorite rappers. Currently my favorite song is Up Up & Away by Lil Wayne. As I said before i am currently taking Mandarin Chinese 3. I decided to take chinese because i was raised up around a lot of chinese movies. reading the subtitles and listening to them speak intruiged me so i wanted to learn to speak the languge they speak. Well thats me in 250 word or less.
